Amazon Prime Video Introduces Ads this Month, with Opt-Out Option for a Fee

Amazon’s Prime Video is set to introduce “limited ads” in shows and movies starting in early 2024. Prime members will have the option to add an ad-free tier to their subscription for an additional $2.99 per month. This new feature is said to offer “meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV services” in the US, UK, Germany, and Canada. The rollout of ads will happen gradually to Prime members in other countries later in 2024.

The company made the announcement during its Devices & Services event last September, where it also introduced new Fire TV Sticks, the TV 4K and 4K Max, and a Fire TV Soundbar, as well as updates to its Fire TV platform. Amazon’s Prime Video is available through the Prime subscription, which offers various benefits such as free delivery, exclusive deals, Amazon Pharmacy, Fresh grocery delivery, Amazon Music, and more.
