The Positive Outlook for Jobs in the Era of AI: How Artificial Intelligence is Set to Make a Big Impact in 2022

The year 2024 will witness the main transition of artificial intelligence (AI) from the sidelines to the mainstream. Some companies have utilized AI and machine-learning technologies for improving performance. Yet, less number of organizations have implemented generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. According to David Brodeur-Johnson, a principal analyst at Forrester, he expects coming 12 months will see the change as more organizations use generative AI. Research from Digitate suggests a significant level of progress in IT organizations’ automation implementation within the next six months, as per 90% of IT decision-makers across industries. However, a considerable number of U.S. employees fear potential job losses to AI and automation. Around 86% of employees in the U.S. are concerned about people losing jobs to AI and automation. On the other hand, according to Nash Squared’s global survey, digital leaders expect a near 17% job loss due to automation. These expected job losses cause worry, although the implementation of AI and automation may lead to better work roles. Automation will be able to handle repetitive human processes, making professionals focus on important business areas. As Ben Elms, chief revenue officer at Expereo, notes, AI will create more job opportunities as it will bring more changes, valuable tasks, and faster services. For instance, according to Hari Ramamurthy, technology fellow at The Home Depot, the use of AI and automation will help staff focus on interesting work. Additionally, Michelle Smith, program manager at Barnardo’s, believes that the smart use of AI could help people work on important tasks.
