David Gewirtz/ZDNET has been talking about the trend of XR, which stands for augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality for the past 6 months. In 2023, XR has become usable and practical to a wider audience. The Meta Quest 3, a $500 XR headset, was named ZDNET’s Product of the Year for 2023. Gewirtz, who is claustrophobic and gets motion sickness, started using the Quest 3. He recorded his experiences, noting that he could use the device without getting sick. He was amazed by the experience, describing it as “mind-bogglingly cool”. After some initial hesitation, Gewirtz finally started using the Quest 3 and was impressed by the immersive experiences it provided. While setting up the device, he encountered some challenges, including adjusting the focus knob and wearing glasses with the headset. Despite these hurdles, he found the experience to be “weird, but in a good way”. Overall, he was excited about the possibilities of VR technology and the potential it holds for changing the way we interact with technology.
