Meta has removed the “Stream to Chromecast” option for its Quest headsets, which allowed users to cast VR content to a larger TV. This option was popular among users but has been quietly removed in an update. Despite no official announcement from Meta, users report that they can now only cast to a phone or computer screen. Instructions on the “Cast to a screen” page also indicate that Chromecast is not fully supported with Meta Quest. Meta’s official YouTube account has posted a video with instructions for casting to a phone or browser but makes no mention of casting to a TV. While the Chromecast option was unreliable, it is still possible to cast to a TV by using a phone or computer as an intermediary. It’s possible that Meta is moving away from this method of casting to open it up to a wider audience, or that Meta prefers people to stream using its own app.
