Despite what you’ve read recently, companies like Apple and Meta aren’t the only ones working on mixed reality/AR/VR technology. While Microsoft has been developing HoloLens, Sony has been improving its PlayStation VR since 2016. According to IDC, the company controlled 27.1% of the worldwide AR/VR headset market at the end of Q2 2023. Siemens, an industry leader in automation and other sectors, has announced a partnership with Sony at CES 2024. Siemens’ CEO, Roland Busch, says that this will allow users to 3D model and simulate systems in a virtual environment. Sony is releasing a new mixed reality headset that uses 4K OLED displays and other technology that allow for a wide range of vibrant colors, making it ideal for video playback and graphic design. This headset is set to be introduced in 2024.
