MSI Claw A1M: MSI’s Steam Deck competitor is here
MSI introduced the Claw A1M as its competitor to the Steam Deck. This new portable gaming console is the first to feature Intel’s Core Ultra chipset, which is equipped with advanced AI algorithms and on-chip video codec support for improved video quality while streaming games and enhanced performance under heavy workloads. Despite some impressive initial specs, MSI’s decisions have raised concerns.
For the GPU, the Claw A1M uses an Intel Arc card, essentially a standalone version of the integrated Xe graphics chips. However, Intel Arc has been plagued by complaints of crashes, glitches, and compatibility issues with numerous games. As a result, it remains to be seen if Intel will address these problems before the Claw A1M becomes available for pre-order.
Despite these concerns, the Claw A1M does have some standout features, including a 7-inch IPS display with 1080p full HD resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, a built-in fingerprint reader for added security, and Wi-Fi 7 support for faster and more stable online gaming.
When comparing the Claw A1M to its competitors, such as the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally, it becomes apparent that the known issues surrounding the Intel Arc graphics drivers may make it difficult for the Claw A1M to compete in a market dominated by the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck.
