According to a blog post from OpenAI, Sam Altman is leaving his role as CEO and his position on the board of directors due to a lack of confidence in his leadership abilities. The board of directors thanked Altman for his contributions and announced that Mira Murati, a long-time member of the OpenAI leadership team, will step into the role of interim CEO. Additionally, Greg Brockman will be stepping down as chairman of the board but will remain in his position reporting to the CEO. OpenAI has been contacted for further comment.
