The upcoming update to the Google Assistant will remove nearly 20 underutilized features, affecting Pixel users and voice interactions on smart devices. These changes include controlling apps with your voice, managing tasks on smart devices, and sending messages or emails with your voice. Google admitted that these changes may be disruptive for some users, but offered alternatives for performing the actions without voice interaction. Additionally, changes are being made to the Google app itself, impacting Pixel users who currently use the microphone on the search bar to trigger the Assistant. Instead, users will have to use voice commands or long-press on the home or power button to activate the Assistant.
