Trying to catch up with integrating AI, Apple plans to unveil major generative AI features for its next version of iOS in 2024, per noted tech reporter Mark Gurman. Gurman hinted at initiatives Apple plans to reveal at the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference in June. These include AI features such as auto-summarizing and auto-complete for core apps like Pages and Keynote, integrating AI into Apple Music to automate playlist creation, and a major overhaul for Siri.
Additionally, Apple is cooking up new versions of Xcode and other programming tools that will utilize generative AI to facilitate code completion for developers. The company is also designing a new AI-powered system for AppleCare employees to enhance customer technical support. Despite competitors like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google capitalizing on generative AI, Apple has been slow to embrace it, which runs the risk of falling behind for a company that prides itself on innovation.
Furthermore, Samsung is set to unveil AI features in its new Galaxy S24, while Apple faces long-standing complaints about Siri’s reliability and development. Even if Apple introduces significant new AI innovations this year, it may take until 2025 to fully realize its generative AI vision. According to Gurman, Apple’s AI tools will launch nearly two years after ChatGPT’s emergence, about a year after Amazon announced its revamped Alexa, and about a year and a half after Microsoft and Google debuted their new services, which is unprecedented for Apple.
